The Public Speaking Experts Podcast
Episode 34 - Public Speaking: How To Land A TEDx Talk with Super Guest Becky Waish
The main difference between TED and TEDx is that TEDx is focused on a local, geographic area. It is a local gathering where TED-like talks and presentations are shared with the community. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.
The most direct way to approach TED is through a nomination, either by someone else or yourself. When you nominate yourself, TED requires a description of your "idea worth spreading" that your talk will focus on and links to videos of your previous speeches or presentations. The best way is to apply with a topic related to the theme of the local TEDx you are aiming for.
In this episode, Elliot and Jose discuss with Becky what it takes to land a TEDx Talk.
Key takeaways are:
* TEDx Speeches aren’t meant to be memorized but in the process of practicing, most of the speech becomes memorized.
* In the moment of performance, the memorization or not shouldn’t hinder the speaker's authenticity.
* Focus on the idea worth spreading. Deliver the speech you intend to deliver.
